WPATH Takes Gender Deconstruction to a New Low
Background:
The American Medical Association (AMA), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and American Psychological Association (APA) have all been seen as trustworthy resources for academic research, continuing education, professional conferences, and reliable guidelines for public health protocols in their respective domains.
Founded in 1979 after the same pattern, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) publishes “evidenced-based” standards of care (SOC) for clinicians and hospitals serving gender dysphoric patients, and is regarded as an authority on transgender health by physicians, psychologists, lawyers, educators, and other human service providers across the globe.1
Reason for Surveillance:
WPATH is garnering respect as an authority, but under false pretenses. The “Professional” in WPATH is a misnomer; anyone can join for a fee. While the AMA, AAP, and APA have all come under scrutiny for dubious ideological leanings, the “research” informing WPATH guidelines is not even dubious, but is all about expanding the transgender umbrella. According to the Clinical Advisory Network on Sex and Gender, an organization composed of UK-based clinicians whose motto is “First do no harm,” WPATH guidelines “lack methodological rigour” and were developed by self-appointed experts who “are themselves interested and invested” in encouraging transgender identities and gender transition.2 The current president of WPATH, biological male Dr. Marci L. Bowers, for example, has performed nearly 4,000 transition surgeries and is credited with being a pioneer in the field.3
At WPATH’s 2009 Oslo conference, retired professor Thomas W. Johnson, adjunct professor Richard J. Wassersug, and K. H. Willette presented “The Development of Standards of Care for Individuals with a Male-to-Eunuch Gender Identity Disorder.”4 The paper offered guidelines for surgical castration for men who “loathe their manhood, but do not identify as . . . female.” The paper was then published in WPATH’s academic journal, The International Journal of Transgenderism. WPATH’s 2011 conference in Atlanta welcomed their return as presenters.
These three men are active participants on the Eunuch Archive, a body-modification fetish site that Genevieve Gluck of Reduxx characterizes as a forum hosting and producing extreme sadomasochistic pornography involving the castration, rape, and torture of children.5 Johnson, who operates under the pseudonym “Jesus,” is reportedly a formative member of the site. He and Wassersug have also published “research” based on surveys conducted with other members of the Archive.
Most Recent Operation:
Johnson advocates “expanding the concept of ‘gender identity’ to include men with sadomasochistic and even pedophilic castration fantasies.”6 His advocacy has paid off, as a newly minted gender identity category was announced in WPATH’s Version 8 SOC, released in 2022—that of the eunuch. Most egregiously, WPATH touts the Eunuch Archive as an online peer-support community providing a “wealth of information about eunuch-identified people.”7
Any medical association recommending archives depicting the violent sexual abuse of children is not worthy of public trust. Advocates of voluntary castration, sadomasochism, or child sex should have no voice when it comes to matters related to children, sexual identity, or sexuality.
