Expunging Pernicious “Whiteness”
America is in a dangerous place today. The institutions, traditions, and values that made us unique in the world, having brought us economic prosperity and freedom unrivaled in any other country in the world, are at risk of extinction in the name of all things woke. When these are expunged, America is no more, and likely the architects of America’s self-immolation are well aware of this. However, the country that the architects of a new Woketopia want to foist on us will not be one that is sustainable or even livable.
In the social upheaval we find ourselves in today, an idea, value, tradition, mind-set, or practice need only to be designated as "white" to suffer cultural indictment, prosecution, and conviction. Case in point: an infographic on the Aspects and Assumptions of Whiteness & White Culture in the United States which appeared on the website of the National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC) says (or “shows”) it all. On this, what appears to be allegedly “white culture” is divided into the following categories:
- Rugged Individualism,
- Family Structure
- Emphasis on the Scientific Method
- Protestant Work Ethic
- Status, Power, & Authority
- Future Orientation and Time
The document decries the fact that people of color have been unfairly subjected to internalizing and adopting “traditions, attitudes, and ways of life [that] have been normalized over time and are now considered standard practices in the United States” by the alleged “white dominant culture” of the past. It takes merely a cursory look over the bullet points within these categories to reveal that without many of these tenets of alleged whiteness, a civil society is not possible, nor is the economic, legal, educational, and medical infrastructure necessary to support a civil society.
Imagine for just a minute this very scary world of Woketopia where merely one or two of these alleged white traditions, attitudes, and ways of life are effectively expunged. Consider the impact of the forced exile of the scientific method which places an emphasis on objective, rational, linear thinking, cause and effect relationships, and quantitative analysis. Who in their right mind would want to drive across a bridge that was not the result of a design by someone acutely familiar with cause and effect relationships and had an odd penchant for crunching numbers? We might rightfully express alarm receiving health care from a doctor who was not well skilled in objective thinking! Likely only the wealthiest of Woketopians would be in a position to seek out the best health care from those unfortunate practitioners relegated to practicing in secrecy in some clandestine underground health-care organization.
In this brave new world of Woketopia, with those embracing the Protestant work ethic forced into hiding for being “too white,” where would one find reliable workers, skilled tradesmen and builders? What will the streets, roads, and public transportation infrastructures look like without the labor of those anachronistic Protestants holding to the ruinous values of “work before play,” or “if you didn’t meet your goals, you didn’t work hard enough”?
In our Woketopian, communal, blissful space, we can only pray that nature will have mercy, since the tendency to “master and control nature,” along with feeling the need to “always ‘do something’ about a situation,” will have suffered the same extinction as the scientific method and the protestant work ethic because they are deemed “white.” What will be truly important is that we have provided an affirming space free from the pernicious white tenets that have been championed in society’s past and held back progress.
Fortunately for all of us, Woketopia does not exist yet, but the pernicious ideas behind the infographic do. By labeling practices, mindsets, and prescriptive that give rise to economic and familial success as “white,” the developers of that infographic do great harm to people of color.
Worst of all, the woke police, cancel culture, and BLM revolutionaries are putting pressure on African American and Latino communities to embrace alternative behaviors, practices, and beliefs that will not lead to the successful life they might otherwise enjoy. It is bad enough that African Americans and Latinos have to suffer the racist epithets of “Coconut,” “Oreo,” or “Uncle Tom,” by members of their own respective communities. Now the race-baiters are muscling them to embrace lifestyles and make life decisions that will only bring misery in their efforts to avoid embracing alleged “whiteness.”
