Discovery Institute and Westminster Theological Seminary to Elucidate the Convergence of Science & Faith

Salvo has from our beginning enjoyed a partnership with the Discovery Institute (DI), whose Center for Science and Culture (CSC) engages in the scientific debate over Darwinian evolution and intelligent design. DI’s CSC is the hub for research and scholarship that develops the theory of intelligent design (ID), and Salvo regularly features articles based on or explaining or elaborating on ID.

There is much misinformation, and if you’ll pardon the overused term, “fake news” about ID, both in academia and mainstream science and culture. So, for the sake of clarity, here is DI’s statement of the theory:

The theory of intelligent design holds that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection.

If you’ve been with Salvo for any length of time, you should be familiar with DI and the excellent work they are doing to liberate science from the suffocating confines of philosophical naturalism. So, I’m excited to tell you about an upcoming conference DI is holding together with Westminster Theological Seminary and a special registration discount they’re offering to Salvo readers.

Design & Designer: The Convergence of Science & Theology will feature a stellar cast of scientists and theologians elucidating ID as the most coherent integration of state-of-the-art science and theistic faith. From the event webpage:

Where do science and faith converge?

Well, an increasing number of scientists are seeing the undeniable evidence of design and purpose in the universe — from nanomachines in microscopic cells to finely-tuned physical conditions in our solar system, galaxy, and the universe at large.

Where did that design and purpose come from?

Meanwhile, people of faith the world over have marveled at the power and genius of the designer described in the Bible — a God who creates order and beauty out of chaos.

But is that faith supported by scientific evidence? The best way to answer that question is to see and hear the evidence for yourself and draw your own conclusion. The conference will be held in the Philadelphia area Friday and Saturday, April 1-2, but livestream attendance is available as well. Click here for schedule, topics, and speakers. Note that there will also be special breakout sessions for school-age students, and children under twelve may attend the conference at no charge.

Also, a special Friday evening event will feature Eric Metaxas and Stephen Meyer in a Socrates in the City discussion of Meyer’s landmark book, Return of the God Hypothesis: Three Scientific Discoveries that Reveal the Mind Behind the Universe. Socrates in the City is Metaxas’s signature series of live broadcasts featuring winsome conversations on “Life, God, and other small topics.” I’m sure the evening will be both fun and informative for all – except perhaps for those who wish to remain sound atheists and claim science as support for it.

Click here for more information about the Design & Designer conference and here to register with a 30% discounted rate. Your discount will be applied when you click on "Tickets." (I checked.) I will be there on behalf of Salvo, so if you attend in person, please stop by and say hello.
