First, let us assure you we are not making this story up.
A Toronto man, a 42-year-old doctor, in fact, had a casual sexual relationship with a woman. According to the doctor (court papers refer to him as PP), the woman (referred to as DD) told him she was on the Pill. But somehow—these things do happen—she became pregnant. And not only that, she wouldn't have an abortion. So PP attempted to sue her for over $4 million.
According to court documents, this was the rationale for suing over her refusal to have an abortion:
DD committed an independently actionable wrong through misconduct that represents a marked departure from ordinary standards of decent behaviour. Her conduct was sufficiently malicious, high-handed and highly reprehensible such that it offends the court's sense of decency.
Fortunately the judge threw out the case, finding no legal basis for the lawsuit. And even more fortunately, DD is now the mother of their 10-month-old baby.
Coming on the heels of Friday's March for Life in Washington, it's an especially distressing tale—that a father would sue the mother of his child for not getting an abortion.•
We recommend reading some of Salvo's extensive coverage on the issue of abortion, including these pieces:
