Here is a book that some Signs of the Times readers might be interested in:
Nation Of Bastards: Essays on the End of Marriage by Douglas Farrow
Farrow’s is another welcome voice in the growing chorus of cultural commentators who agree that the traditional family represents one of the best checks we have on government power. What makes him unique is his observation that divorcing procreation from marriage allows the government to function not only as “big brother,” but as “mother and father” as well.
I first came across this book in the BLIPS section of the most recent issue of Salvo. Farrow touches on this same theme in an article he wrote for the Jan/Feb 2010 issue of Touchstone: The Audacity of the State: Bringing Down the House on the Family & the Church.
